Is the London Stock Exchange Downtime a Microsoft Failure?

The London Stock Exchange was shut down for 7 hours in September last year due to technical problems. Since the TradElect system is based heavily on Microsoft platform, a lot of traders are blaming it on the technology.

As a consequence, there's talk of migrating the LSE system to a Linux based platform.

Do read the comments in the article too. Non-IT or non-technical people always blame it on the technology or platform when it's usually a mistake or error on the operational portion.

Of course, the humans involved would be all too happy to allow this misconception to breed because they do not want to be blamed for their mistakes! Better the technology's reputation suffer than to admit to one's own failures.
