The World's Largest Tuned Mass Damper
I've been fascinated by these engineering wonders called mass dampers ever since reading about them in a Popular Science article about the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge.
Mass dampers are heavy masses hung as a pendulum within tall structures in order to reduce the swaying of these buildings/towers etc. They're an amazing example of just how cool physics is, at least to me!
