Serendipity?

Something odd happened after work yesterday. I decided to window-shop a bit around MidValley Megamall since there's no point getting caught in traffic anyway.

Just when I was thinking about how the holiday season, with ubiquitous joyous couples, seem to magnify the misery of lonely people someone stopped me by waving her hand in my path. Startled, i turned around to see what she has to sell but she said i looked familiar and that she's seen me from somewhere.

For the life of me i just couldn't recognize her from anywhere so i asked, "I'm sorry, do i know you?"

She insisted that she saw me from somewhere but couldn't recall. Too bad i couldn't either so she said, "you're in the IT field right? you work around here..." Then my alarm bells rang. I've heard stories of people who stop you out of the blue to talk to you and try to con you out of something valuable...a handphone or even some petty cash. In this case, anyone with half a brain could tell that I'm into IT and just got off from work because i'm carrying a notebook computer and i'm dressed for corporate work!

A person trying to con you would notice details like that, see that i'm strolling aimlessly around...alone/lonely...and think that i'd be a good 'mark', what a 'player' would call a victim ripe for conning. First, they'll talk to you to try to establish rapport, and then when you're comfortable they'll start asking for small little 'demands' first and then it goes on...depending on how gullible you are.

Anyway, she must not be very good at it and i almost feel sorry for her. I tried to strike up a conversation asking her what field she's in (marketing), where she works (a rather vague 'K.L.'), and even where she studied (TAR College) and bingo! Finally we have something in common so i asked her which course she was in (Computer Science) and she must've noticed my face then because I really don't know any girl from that course. So I just said that she must've seen me in college before but sorry i don't really notice her.

I was careful not to inadvertantly offer my information(college, where I work, my name..) first. She has to at least say something that makes me think we might have met before. Unfortunately, she floundered.

The conversation was getting rather awkward so I started making moves to leave and say goodbye. Just then she kept insisting that she recognized my face from somewhere, wanted to say hi and asked for my phone number. *Alarm bells again!* I immediately thought that she wanted to see if my handphone is a good model and worth conning for. I gave her my number (the real number since i don't see any harm in that) and asked her to miss-call me on the spot so I have hers too.

She even offered a handshake before we said our goodbyes. Her hand was clammy and cold, so much for confidence!

Now I know what you're thinking. She probably made an honest mistake waving to me because she mistook me for someone else. When i actually stopped to talk (how could i not? she waved her hand in my path!) she realized then, but was too embarassed to admit it. So the both of us played along.

I admit that's a huge possibility and how I wish that was the case. After all, i don't mind some company there and then...while she's not exactly my type, there's a bit of 'Marisa Tomei'-ish cuteness about her (toothy grin, really dark shoulder length hair, and a 'ditzy' sort of cheerfulness) but whoa-hey! that's just my loneliness talking!!

Or perhaps she was just another lonely soul hoping to enjoy the sights with someone else too...NOT! Regardless, i SMS-ed her while i sat eating at McDonald's but no reply. So let's just leave it at that.

Gosh how cynical i've become!

Some Funny Quotations About Sex

Tom Clancy: "I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, natural, wholesome things that money can buy."

Steve Martin: "You know 'that look' women get when they want sex? Me neither."

Woody Allen:"Sex without love is a meaningless experience, but as meaningless experiences go, it's pretty damned good."

Woody Allen: "Having sex is like playing bridge. If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have a good hand."

George Burns: "It isn't premarital sex if you have no intention of getting married."

Camille Paglia: "Sex at age 90 is like trying to shoot pool with a rope."

George Burns: "Sex is one of the nine reasons for reincarnation. The other eight are unimportant."

Henry Miller: "The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision."

Lynn Lavner: "There are a number of mechanical devices which increase sexual arousal, particularly in women. Chief among these is the Mercedes-Benz 600SL convertible."

Christmas Decorations
No, I don't mean decorations at home...well, maybe when I go back to my hometown, dad will forces us to decorate the place...We really need a new Christmas tree. The old one (plastic of course, they don't sell real trees here) is already too bald in the middle.
At least most of the ornaments are still serviceable. Some of them even come with memories....

So the MidValley mall is all decorated for Christmas already. Compared to Suria KLCC's sparse XMas decorations, it seems to me MidValley's the more 'Christian' mall. Which figures because of the high concentration of churches in the P.J. area nearby.
It's no Lord-of-the-Rings with faux snow but still more interesting than other malls. Huge curtains, several tall trees on these big stands. Times like these I wish I have a camera phone.

I went there last Saturday with Denis. Thanks for the CDs Denis and I wish you a safe journey. May you never forget your roots! ;) God bless.
